This is an invitation to land, to feel, and to move from a place of awareness. Guided movements improve flexibility and range while expanding expressive possibilities. Informed by Anna Halprin’s practice of Movement Ritual® this class is a warmup for daily life, naturally bringing more ease, vitality, and creative possibility. Open to all levels, no dance experience required.
Somatic movement is intended to enhance human functioning and body-mind integration through movement awareness. It’s a way of approaching movement that invites internal sensing (interoception) as well as kinesthetic awareness. You might say, it’s simply a way of moving naturally, and a way of returning to innate knowing. A somatic movement educator guides movement patterning and re-patterning, invites open exploration and discovery, and welcomes a sense of the body as home, encompassing physical processes and all of our lived experience.
Azriel LaMarca has over twenty years of teaching dance and movement. She has trained in modern dance, improvisation, yoga, creative dance, and most recently, the Tamalpa Method, a form of expressive arts therapy pioneered by Daria and Anna Halprin. As a somatic movement educator, she guides participants into deeper listening to the body where movement and creative expression become a way through to more knowing, healing, and joy.
