“Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost.”

Azriel LaMarca

Azriel is a dancer, teacher, choreographer, and performer. She has taught modern dance and creative movement for over twenty years. She is inspired by the connection between inner sensing and outer expression, constantly seeking the place where the two merge in a dance. She offers a generous, inclusive dance technique class, emphasizing alignment, dynamic range, and the joy of dancing in community.

Background

Azriel has a BA in Theatre Arts from UC Santa Cruz.  Her most influential movement teachers include Mel Wong, Ellie Klopp, Nancy Stark Smith, Wendell Beavers, Ray Schwartz, Katherine Birdsall, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Linda Bair, and Daria Halprin.

Azriel has been a performer with the Zen Monkey Project, Glass Bead Players, Shadow Cabinet, and Linda Bair Dance Company and has been presenting her own choreography and collaborative work in Nevada City for twenty years.

In 2024, Azriel graduated from the Teacher Training program at Tamalpa Institute, and she is now expanding her work into the field of movement-based, expressive arts therapy. As a somatic movement educator, she guides participants into deeper listening to the body where movement and creative expression become a way through to more knowing, healing, and joy.
